“What do you think, Douglas? Should the picture go over here, or over the chaise?” Marlena looked over at her husband as she spoke, waiting for his response.
“You know what I think, Marlena. The picture should go back up in the attic. It has no business hanging in any part of this house.” Having said this, Douglas took a deep drink from the snifter in his hand. Today of all days she had to pull this!
Marlena smiled. “Oh, but Douglas, you know how fond your sister is of this picture!” She knew she had hit home when she saw her husband turn pale and walk out the door. She might not know the picture’s story, but she did know that it involved her husband and his sister’s youth … and that it terrified both of them!
