The Locket

locket

Ellie stood there with the locket in her hand. Memories – memories of her grandmother, of her father, and memories about the uncle that she had never known. It was a small, heart shaped, gold filigree locket that had belonged to her grandmother. She had received it from her grandmother after she died.

Ellie took a deep breath, and opened the locket. There were pictures of two young men, in uniform – her father, and the uncle she had never known. Both men lost to her, in their own way. Quietly, she closed the locket and replaced it in the drawer.
